Clare says...
"Marie is a wonderful teacher. It's was many years since I last did yoga, but I've found a renewed sense of peace and strength in the three years I've been practicing with her. Somehow she manages to combine a gentle approach with total accountability. It's much more than a physical exercise class - I have enjoyed being part of a lovely yogi community."
WHAT YOU NEED FOR YOGA
If you would like to chat before attending a class, for example if you would like to discuss an injury or ongoing health issue please get in touch here. There are certain medical conditions that may prevent you practicing yoga in a public class. If you have any doubts please contact me.

Bottle of water

TYPICAL QUESTIONS

-
I regularly go the gym and I'm fairly fit. Will this class be too easy?
My answer: Yoga is never easy if you are doing it right! I have worked classes with ballerinas and professional athletes...there is always a deeper breath, a longer balance, more internal focus or an extra millimeter to stretch. Even the most basic and straightforward class can test a world class yogi! This is the point of yoga...you are not in competition with anyone other than your own ego!

-
I have practiced with another yoga teacher, will your class be the same type of class?
My answer: Nope, every teacher brings their own interpretation. I am fortunate to have had many teachers from many places over the years and i appreciate every single one of them. Each has their own style and wisdom and with 18,000+ variations of physical asanas, differing approaches to meditation and breathwork and of course individual life experience...each teacher is completely unique.

-
What is Hatha yoga?
My answer: Hatha yoga is a physical practice for mind body and spirit. It is based on balancing tour masculine and feminine energies (nothing to do with gender - these energies have been around for thousands of years...you may know them as yin and yang).

-
Will yoga help me relax?
My answer: Yoga is about coming back home to the quiet part of you. The asanas (movement) and pranyama (breathwork) help your nervous system to release both physical and emotional tension so by the end of a well designed sequence you will feel very calm and relaxed. The more you practice yoga, the more your nervous system responds both on and off the mat.

-
I find meditation difficult?
My answer: Me too. I've been at it for almost 20 years and it's still tricky. For 7000 years yoga mostly consisted of sitting in meditation. Then they realised that it was too difficult for most people...that's why they invented the physical asanas (postures)...the movement facilitates meditation. Yes practicing yoga gives us a nice bottom, stronger legs and more flexible hips...but really it's about helping us to meditate...to find that calmness inside.

-
What if people stare at me in class?
My answer: Everyone else will be too busy trying to breathe...they won't have the time or inclination to look at anyone else.

-
I tried a yoga class and it was full of super bendy people in fancy expensive leggings?
My answer: I tried those classes too. Yoga teaches you not to care what anyone else thinks...

-
I have arthritis will this class help?
My answer: So do I but it hasn't stopped me practising most days for 14 years. Hatha yoga is very much about alignment and posture. You will be asked to move a lot but in ways that work with your body. Please speak to me beforehand if you have any concerns.

-
Will I work my core?
My answer: My classes are mostly about working your core but in the proper way. You will not be doing crunches...this is not working with your core. You will be working with your diaphram, pelvic floor, abdominals, psoas and correct posture.

-
I'm menopausal, will these classes help?
My answer: Yes! I do offer a specialised class for menopause, however all yoga is about working with the nervous system and this helps reduce stress which helps during menopause.
