Welcome &
What to expect
It's six years since I began this online community sangha. We practice six mornings a week, except Tuesday (Tuesday we practice in the evening).
Each class begins with a type of pranyama (breathwork) and ends in meditation. We explore a different sequence each month and incorporate mudra, meditations, chanting and pranyama. There is no long term commitment, you pay monthly and can cancel anytime.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday is a strong sequence which begins the 1st of each month. In Hatha yoga we allow the masculine energies to lead our practice through alignment, strength and focus so that the feminine energies can flow creatively.

Thursday is a more gentle class. Slow Saturday is exactly what it says on the box, we withdraw energy from external entaglements and expectations so that our practice is relaxed and rejuvenating.

Tuesday evening we incorporate more breathwork and meditation to help relax us into our evening.

Through your practice you will become aware of your breath, how it enters your body, it's flow and when it feels stuck. You will learn to control your breath...the on/off button for your nervous system, the most gentle and helpful way to increase your flexibility and to release tension.
This type of practice is great for understanding how your body responds to internal and external stimuli and is therefore helpful for managing stress, anxiety, neurodivergence, menopause, autoimmune related health conditions such as fibromyalgia, endometriosis, parkinsons and to support a recovery pathway from addiction. It will also help you to understand entrenched behavioural triggers and patterns including emotional regulation, attachment, duty, perfectionism etc. Please do not expect miracles. Mother nature has her own rhythms and whilst there can be sudden transformative epiphanies, most human transformation takes time and consistency.

TYPICAL QUESTIONS

-
I regularly go the gym and I'm fairly fit. Will this class be too easy?
My answer: I have worked classes with ballerinas and professional athletes...there is always a deeper breath, a longer balance, more internal focus or an extra millimeter to stretch. Even the most basic and straightforward class can be testing because you are facing your own ego!

-
I have practiced with another yoga/pilates teacher, will your class be the same type of class?
My answer: Nope, every teacher brings their own interpretation. I am fortunate to have had many teachers from many places over the years and i appreciate every single one of them. Each has their own style and wisdom and with 18,000+ variations of physical asanas, differing approaches to meditation and breathwork and of course individual life experience...each teacher is completely unique.

-
What is Hatha yoga?
My answer: Hatha yoga is a physical practice for mind body and spirit. It is based on balancing tour masculine and feminine energies (nothing to do with gender - these energies have been around for thousands of years...you may know them as yin and yang).

-
Will this practice help me relax?
My answer: We practice coming back home to the quiet part of ourselves. For many of us this can feel like torture at the beginning. Our attention is a valuable commodity in this world and we are therefore continually distracted. The asanas (movement) and pranyama (breathwork) help your nervous system to release both physical and emotional tension so by the end of a well designed sequence you will feel very calm and relaxed. The more you practice, the more your nervous system responds both on and off the mat.

-
I find meditation difficult?
My answer: Me too. I've been at it for almost 20 years and it's still tricky. For 7000 years yoga mostly consisted of sitting in meditation. Then they realised that it was too difficult for most people...that's why they invented the physical asanas (postures)...the movement facilitates meditation. Yes practicing yoga gives us a nice bottom, stronger legs and more flexible hips...but really it's about helping us to meditate...to find that calmness inside.

-
I have arthritis/fibromyalgia/endometriosis/etc will this class help?
My answer: So do I and this is exactly why I began my practice 14 years ago. Western society often encourages us to rest or take medication. Hatha yoga is very much about do what you can.

-
Will I work my core?
My answer: My classes are mostly about working your core but properly. It's not about vanity so no gymbunny crunches. You work with your diaphram, pelvic floor, abdominals, psoas, obliques and postural alignment.

-
I'm menopausal, will these classes help?
My answer: Yes! I do offer a specialised class for menopause, however all yoga is about working with the nervous system and this helps reduce stress which helps during menopause and beyond.
